The Gau language of the mountains at the junction of Bijie County, Guizhou Province and Gulin County, Sichuan Province in China seems to have died out in the 1980s ( Zhang, Jimin 1993: 419 , Shearer, Walter and Sun, Hongkai 2017: 850-852 ). But a wordlist and some sentences were recorded from an aged speaker ( Zhang, Jimin 1993 ) showing that this was a distinct language most closely related to the Gelao group of languages ( Zhang, Jimin 1993: 420-429 , Shearer, Walter and Sun, Hongkai 2017: 850-852 ).
